Chai Steel Cut Oats with Fruit and Nuts
f time is of the essence replace water with your favorite store bough pre-made chai tea and steel cuts oats with a faster cooking variety.
- 3 cups water
- 2 strong chai tea bags or tablespoon chai spice mix
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- Pinch salt
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, optional
- 1 cup milk. plus more for serving
- Dried Mulberries, Nectarines, Dates and Fresh Pears, for serving
Bring water to a boil. Add tea bags or chai spice and steep to make a strong brew. Strain. Melt ghee in a saucepan over low heat. Add oats and cook a minute or two until just toasty. Add strained chai, salt and sugar if using. Stir to combine. Let simmer about 30 minutes without stirring. Stir in milk and cook another 10 minutes until tender and creamy. Divide between serving bowls and top with fruit. Warm milk for serving, if using.
